We are a community shaped by the life and teaching of Jesus. 

We read the Bible together because it is God's Word, and it helps us listen to him and make sense of life. We don't believe it's a book for experts only. We bring our questions, different experiences, and honest reactions — trusting that God meets us as we listen, learn, and wrestle together over time. We want to be a church that is shaped by Bible and centred on the gospel - so that we grow as disciples and help others come to know Jesus too. 

We depend on the Holy Spirit to guide us, change us, and give life to our worship, our discipleship, and our witness. 

Prayer is part of who we are. We believe God listens, cares, and invites us to bring everything to him — including our doubts and worries. We pray with confidence because we trust in a good and loving Father.

Building Community

Church is not just something we attend; it's a community we belong to. 

We practice hospitality by sharing meals, opening our homes, and building relationships across all ages and backgrounds. We believe life is better when it's shared. 

We love Wylam and want to be part of everyday village life — forming friendships, supporting one another, and creating spaces where people feel known and valued.

Blessing Wylam

We believe being a church means showing up for our village. 

We want to be visible, useful, and kind — serving local needs, joining in community life, and being present to the people around us. We want our love and service to point to Jesus — in our words when it's welcomed, and in our actions always. We seek the good of Wylam by listening well, loving generously, and serving in practical ways.

Over time, many people in Wylam have travelled elsewhere to worship — often for good reasons. At the same time, fewer people encounter Christian faith naturally within village life itself. We long to see people in Wylam come to know Jesus, grow as mature disciples, and live out the gospel with courage and generosity in everyday life.

We trust both the good news of Jesus and the work of the Holy Spirit to bring new life, deep change, and lasting hope - in individuals, households, and the life of our village.

While some people connect with Wylam Community Church alongside other commitments, our hope is to be a church home for people - a place to grow as disciples, share life deeply, and serve faithfully over the long term. For some, that may mean continuing to support the church they are part of; for others, it may mean prayerfully discerning whether God is calling them to re‑root their church life here in Wylam.

Wylam Community Church exists to be a rooted Christian presence in this place: centred on Jesus, open to questions, and committed to everyday relationships here. Our hope is to grow a community where faith is lived locally, patiently, and visibly.

Standing on faithful foundations

Wylam Community Church didn't begin in a vacuum. 

For generations, people in Wylam have worshipped, prayed, served, and quietly kept faith alive through local churches. We are deeply grateful for that faithfulness -.especially where it has been carried through small congregations, changing times, and unseen perseverance.

Our life together builds on that story. We see ourselves not as replacing what has gone before, but as one part of the ongoing Christian presence in the village, shaped by what others have faithfully sustained.

Our beginnings

Wylam Community Church grew slowly out of prayer, conversation, and a shared sense that God was inviting a small group of people to do something new in this village. 

Rather than starting with big programmes or fixed plans, we began by meeting, listening, and learning together — asking what it might look like to follow Jesus faithfully in Wylam today.

Part of a wider Christian presence

Wylam Community Church is one expression of the Christian faith in the life of our village. Other churches in Wylam come from different traditions and hold different convictions, and we respect that diversity. 

While we remain honest about our own beliefs, we are glad to share in certain activities, conversations, and moments of village life with others — working together where we can, and always seeking to act with kindness, integrity, and grace.

Christ-centred

Jesus and his gospel are at the heart of everything we do. He shapes our worship, our serving, and our everyday lives.

Growing Disciples

We help people of all ages learn what it means to follow Jesus in ordinary life — relying on the work of the Holy Spirit to bring growth, change and new hope at home, at work, at school, and in the village.

Prayerful

We depend on God. We pray together for Wylam, for our neighbours, and for the wider world.

Doing Life Together

We believe community matters. We share life, support one another, and walk together through both joys and struggles.

Hospitality and Welcome

Everyone matters. We aim to be a warm, safe, and welcoming place — especially for those who find church unfamiliar or difficult.

Servant-hearted for Wylam

We seek the good of our village by listening carefully, serving humbly, and loving our neighbours in practical ways.

You do not need to agree with everything below to come along, ask questions, or belong at Wylam Community Church. But we believe honesty matters, so we want to be clear about the faith that shapes us.

A Simple Summary

In simple terms:

• We believe there is a God who made the world, loves it deeply, and cares about people and communities.
• We believe God has made himself known through the Bible and, most clearly, through the life of Jesus.
• We believe every person matters — each of us is valuable, loved, and made for relationship with God.
• We believe something is not quite right with the world or with us. Life is often broken, and we all fall short in different ways.
• We believe Jesus lived a real human life, died, and rose again — making forgiveness, healing, and a fresh start with God possible.
• We believe this new life is a gift, not something we earn. It begins by trusting Jesus, turning to him — receiving his forgiveness, and beginning a new life with him as Lord.
• We believe God's Spirit is at work today — helping people change, grow, and live with love, purpose, and hope.
• We believe the church is meant to be a community of people who worship God, care for one another, share hope, and seek the good of the world around them.
• We believe the story of Jesus doesn't end here — that there is hope for the future, justice beyond what we see now, and new life beyond this one.

Our Statement of Faith

We share the Evangelical Alliance basis of faith. In short, we believe in:

• The one true God who lives eternally in three persons — the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
• The love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world.
• The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures.
• The dignity of all people, made male and female in God's image, yet corrupted by sin.
• The incarnation of God's eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ — truly divine and truly human, yet without sin.
• The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross, paying the price of sin and defeating evil.
• The bodily resurrection of Christ, his ascension, and his reign as the only Saviour of the world.
• The justification of sinners solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ.
• The ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ, and empowers our discipleship.
• The church, the body of Christ both local and universal.
• The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ.

Wylam Community Church is led by a small team of people who care deeply about the spiritual health of the church, the wellbeing of those who belong, and the good of our wider community. 

We believe church leadership works best when it is shared, prayerful, and rooted in relationship. Our leaders seek to listen carefully - to God, to one another, and to the wider church - as they discern direction, make decisions, and support the life of the church.

Leadership at Wylam Community Church is about service, responsibility, accountability, and helping the church live out its vision of loving Jesus, building community, and blessing Wylam.

For those who make Wylam Community Church their church home, the leadership team carries a particular responsibility for spiritual oversight, pastoral care, and accountability.

What the leadership team does

Together, the leadership team takes responsibility for:

• Shaping vision, values, and priorities
• Caring for the spiritual life and wellbeing of the church
• Supporting worship, teaching, prayer, and pastoral care
• Encouraging participation and shared life across the community
• Overseeing ministries and activities
• Making sure the church is safe, well-run, and acting with integrity

Decisions are made prayerfully and collaboratively, seeking wisdom, unity, and what will best serve the church and the community we’re part of.

Listening to the wider church

Although the leadership team carries particular responsibility, Wylam Community Church is shaped by shared discernment.

The voices, experiences, and insights of those who call the church their home are valued and welcomed. Where appropriate, leaders seek feedback and invite conversation, believing that God often speaks through the whole community.

Accountability and good governance

Wylam Community Church is a registered charity, and some members of the leadership team also carry legal responsibility as Charity Trustees for governance, finance, safeguarding, and compliance with charity law.

These responsibilities are exercised carefully and transparently, so that the church can pursue its spiritual mission with trust, integrity, and accountability.
