Sunday Gatherings
Our Sunday Rhythm
From September, we plan to meet weekly on Sundays.
Rather than doing the same thing every week, we follow a simple monthly rhythm that creates space for worship, creativity, community, and shared life.
Our Sunday gatherings are the heart of our shared life as a church, where we centre ourselves on Jesus through the Bible, prayer, worship, and being with each other, trusting that God’s Spirit is at work among us as we listen, respond, and are shaped together.
Everyone is welcome — whether you've been a Christian for years, are new to faith, are exploring, or are full of questions and doubts. You don't need to pretend, perform, or have everything sorted. There is a place for you here.
Here’s what our Sundays usually look like in a typical month:
First, Third and Fifth Sundays — Whole Church Gathering Together — 3.30pm – 5.30pm
On the first, third and fifth Sunday of each month we gather as church family in the afternoon at Wylam Methodist Church, 1 Chapel Ln, Wylam NE41 8AA.
While the gathering won't always be the same, there will always be time to worship God together through music and prayer, hearing the Bible read and explained and thinking together how this applies to our lives.
Everyone is welcome, and children and young people will be at the heart of our time together.
Why?
We are a community shaped by the life and teaching of Jesus, and we want to open God’s word together so that we can bring our questions, experiences and honest reactions. Our gatherings give us the space to do this together, whatever our age or background.
We believe that God listens, cares and is active among us. So we prioritise prayer and are dependent on the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives and the life of our church family.
Second Sunday — Church Family Sundays - 10.00am
The second Sunday of each month is our Church Family Sunday. In the morning we meet in a home at 10am for Sunday brunch. In the afternoon we have a prayer meeting at 3.30pm, and then lead and support the monthly Messy Church — a place and space for children and adults of all ages to engage with God and His Word through creativity and song. Messy Church has been an established part of the Christian life of Wylam for several years.
Fourth Sunday — Church Community Sundays — 3.30pm – 5.30pm
On the fourth Sunday of each month we lead the Christians Meeting in Wylam group to enjoy fellowship with brothers and sisters from Wylam and the wider Tyne Valley. We have an informal time to catch up with one another before a Bible passage is explained and we're given time to apply this to our lives through prayer. There are always people of all ages at our meetings, and everyone is welcome. Our meetings are followed by a meal.
Why?
The Christians Meeting in Wylam sessions were the place where Wylam Community Church took shape.
While not everyone who attends these meetings is a member of Wylam Community Church, fellowship with brothers and sisters in and beyond our village supports us to build community
